Volleyball Betting at William Hill

Hit the court and let William Hill spike you some cracking volleyball bets.
Volleyball is an incredibly popular sport around the globe, with dozens of professional leagues in countries as diverse as the USA, Russia and India. This means that there are plenty of opportunities to get stuck into some great volleyball betting.
While for many people volleyball is a relaxing game to be played on the beach during a summer holiday, the professional game is fast, furious and well worth keeping a keen bettors’ eye on.
Unlike many other sports, the court set up for men and women is slightly different, with the net men play with being 2.43m high and the net in the women’s game being 2.25m high.
Volleyball betting explained
At its core, it’s an incredibly simple game and, because of this, volleyball betting can provide a great opportunity to those bettors who have a good volleyball betting strategy.
Volleyball involves two teams of six players battling it out in a best-of-five-set game. The first team to score 25 points by a two-point margin is awarded a set. If a fifth set is needed, then it’s a race to 15 points.
The rules are also incredibly simple and can be picked up in a matter of minutes. Many of the volleyball betting markets are just as easy to pick up.
One of the most popular markets is the good old-fashioned head-to-head market. Just like in any sport in which two teams compete against each other, you can bet on the winner of the game.
A typical volleyball game lasts between 60 and 90 minutes (depending on how many sets are needed) so there’s loads of time to take advantage of the ebbing and flowing of the game by looking into the in-play betting markets.
You can also bet on several other volleyball markets such as the winner of the first set or the correct score.
One of the most popular volleyball markets is the total points market. Here bettors are given an over/under points total (much like in football or rugby markets).
This is an attractive market for anyone just getting into volleyball betting and offers an opportunity to test the water before venturing into any of the other markets.
There are dozens of great markets available for bettors to get involved with – and you certainly don’t need to be a volleyball betting expert to take advantage.
Betting on the different volleyball leagues
Volleyball is a truly global sport, meaning that whatever the time of day, there’s sure to be a volleyball game happening somewhere.
In Europe, the biggest competition is the Men’s Champions League and this fiercely competitive cup is well worth keeping an eye on.
Structured in a similar way to its footballing namesake, the Men’s Champions League pits the best 28 professional volleyball teams from across Europe against each other in groups. The seven first-placed teams, as well as the five best second-placed teams, all qualify for the Playoff 12.
The final is usually played out around mid-May and, throughout the 2010s, the competition has been dominated by the teams from one country – Russia.
Zenit-Kazan won the tournament each year between 2015 and 2018 and before that the competition was won by Belogorie and Lokomotiv Novosibirsk, who also hail from Russia.
The Russian Volleyball Super League is arguably the strongest league in Europe, but Zenit-Kazan also have a stranglehold on that league. They have proved the most successful team in the division, since it was founded from the remnants of the Soviet Championship in 1992.
That doesn’t mean there are no other options for betting on Men’s Champions League volleyball though. Teams from Italy, such as Lube Cucine Civitanova and SIR Sicoma Colussi Perugia, also perform consistently and are well worth considering when weighing up your volleyball betting options.
While the Russians may dominate the men’s game in Europe, in the Women’s Champions League it’s Turkey who perform consistently well. VakıfBank Istanbul are always worth consideration when looking at match betting or outright volleyball betting markets.
Elsewhere in Europe, the German Bundesliga also generates a huge amount of interest – even though it’s more of a two-horse race than a typical Scottish football title battle.
You have to go back all the way to 1997 to Bayer Wuppertal’s championship win to find the last time a team other than SSC Berlin or VfB Friedrichshafen claimed the title.
With this in mind, canny volleyball bettors would do well to keep an eye on games involving these two sides and take advantage of any in-play betting markets when it looks like they may slip up.
The Romanian Divizia A1, Czech Extraliga, French Pro A and Greek A1 also offer attractive betting opportunities for anyone who cares to take a look – especially in the volleyball match betting markets, where games are often fiercely competitive and can yield some pretty tasty odds.
A little further afield, the Brazilian Superliga produces plenty of great teams and exciting games.
The Superliga has been dominated by Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei – the team from the eastern Brazilian city of Contagem that won the title every year from 2014 to 2018 and show little sign of slowing down.
Of course, with such a strong domestic league, it’s little wonder that Brazil’s men won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics – the pinnacle of the sport.
Betting on Olympic volleyball
The Olympics is unquestionably the biggest event for volleyball players, fans and bettors, with the world’s eyes glued to sports they may otherwise only have a passing interest in.
The win on home soil for Brazil represents the peak for a nation that had already won Olympic gold in Athens 2004 and Barcelona in 1992.
Bettors would always do well to pay close attention to Brazil when looking to place a volleyball bet, with the South American’s also picking up silver at both Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012.
Brazil’s women also tend to put in a good showing, spiking and blocking their way to gold in both Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
However, China are also a team worth consideration, with the Asian team winning in Rio 2016.
They have performed consistently in the Olympics since volleyball was introduced as a sport in 1964 and anyone looking into volleyball betting strategy would do well to see how they are performing heading into any future Olympic Games.
